Pompano Water Activities
Vacationing in the summer can get hot, especially when you’re in Pompano Beach, Florida. The average high temperature of 90 degrees in the summer is enough to make anyone want to dive in the ocean to cool off. If vacationing at our La Costa Beach Club Resort is on your to-do list this year, knowing what water activities are available is a must.
The most well-known water activity in Pompano Beach is also the main reason why people vacation there: the beach. The city is home to 3.5 miles of sandy white beaches to enjoy while swimming in the Atlantic Ocean. While you cool off and relax in the water, your children or grandchildren can play on a number of the beachside playgrounds located along the coastline.
If you’re looking for more to do than just swimming in the ocean, you can always rent a watercraft from shops like On the Beach Water Sports, Life’s A Beach Watersports and American Watersports. These shops allow you to rent various items such as wave runners, kayaks and beach furniture. On the Beach also offers sailboat and Hobie Cat rides, as well as jumping on their water trampolines.
For the kayak enthusiasts visiting the area in June and August, Pompano Beach will be hosting the Extreme Kayak Fishing Summer Slam Series. This event takes place on June 27th and August 22nd from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a fishing competition out in the ocean while free food and drinks will be served on the beach by the pier. There will also be live entertainment, giveaways and a paddle board race.
People who love fishing but not necessarily kayak fishing have the 1,000-foot-long municipal fishing pier, perfect for casting a line off of. For those looking to do some deep sea fishing, there are several charters along the coast that will take guests to all the popular fishing locations. Charter businesses such as BOLO Sport Fishing Charters and Hillsboro Inlet Fishing Center are popular choices to help you go out and hook that trophy fish you’ve always dreamed about.
If you want to try something more exciting than hauling in a kingfish or tuna, Ocean Explorer Dive Charters might be just what you need. This 62-foot custom dive boat can accommodate up to eight passengers for trips to the Bahamas from Pompano Beach. Those wanting to stay in the country can book a half or full day excursion for up to 18 people to popular dive spots along the Florida coastline. Ocean Explorer Dive Charters serves onboard meals along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Chartering a boat isn’t the only way to explore below the water’s surface. If you have your own scuba gear or a snorkel mask, go check out the Pompano Beach Dropoff, an offshore living coral reef. It’s located about a half mile south of the Pompano Pier and 350 yards offshore, and is home to flat rock masses over 100 feet wide. There are also corals, seawhips and sponges, along with small holes and caves created by crumbled rock that now house small marine life.
Snorkeling and scuba diving may be a little out of your league if you are vacationing with younger children or grandchildren. Head over to the Houston/Sworn Aquatic Center for a “dive-in” movie if you’re in town June 5th, July 17th or August 14th. You can hang out in the swimming pool while a family-friendly movie plays on the big screen.
If you’re looking for something a little more fun and exciting than a movie in a swimming pool, you can take a quick drive to nearby Deerfield Beach to visit Splash Adventure Water Park. Just a 20 minute drive from our Pompano Beach resort, La Costa Beach Club, this interactive children’s water playground features slides, tunnels, water curtains, a huge water bucket that spills out and empties onto the playground below and much more.
No matter where in Pompano Beach you choose to spend your time outside of the La Costa Beach Club Resort, you’re never more than a quick drive away from a fun water activity. From lounging on the beautiful beach to exploring coral reefs beneath the surface, Pompano Beach has everything to heat up your vacation while keeping you cool.
Summer In Kennebunk
Summer wouldn’t be complete without an amazing vacation to one of Capital Resorts’ premier locations. If you’re looking for a destination that truly has it all, 84 Main in Kennebunk, Maine may be exactly what you need. From great food and beautiful sights to wonderful beaches, Kennebunk is full of things to make your vacation the best it could possibly be.
If you want a quiet, relaxing vacation, look no further than the beach. Kennebunk is home to three sandy beaches perfect for lounging. All three, Gooch’s, Kennebunk, and Mother’s Beach, are long and wide beaches that are an ideal spot to hang out on, sun yourself or take a stroll along the water while looking for sand dollars and enjoying the day.
After you’ve soaked up the sun, appeal to your creative side with the Kennebunk Art Walk. This self-guided tour occurs the third Friday of each month and takes you through local art galleries, studios and museums in the downtown area. One of the more intriguing stops on this tour is the Brick Store Museum. Located on Main Street, this museum showcases the history of the Southern Maine area with a schedule of rotating exhibitions throughout the year. Also available along the Art Walk is the Kennebunk Library, The Shutter Gallery and the Kennebunk Basketry.
If you want to take your artistic side one step further, head on over to Shakespeare in the Park. This free summer event is hosted by the Kennebunk Recreation Department and Mainestage Shakespeare. Located in Lafayette Park just minutes from 84 Main, Shakespeare in the Park will put on classic Shakespearean plays such as Julius Caesar every Thursday and Friday at 7:00 p.m. beginning July 10th and lasting through August 22nd.
Maybe theater isn’t your style, but if you enjoy good, local music then head back to Lafayette Park on Wednesdays for Concerts in the Park. This event is also free and will take place every Wednesday from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. starting June 17th and going through August 5th. If you’re interested in hearing great music from little-known bands, then grab a blanket or a lawn chair and head to the park.
Weekends in Kennebunk are always full of exciting events to partake in, but if Shakespeare or local music doesn’t pique your interest then don’t worry because you won’t have to leave downtown to find something else to do. One great part about vacation is trying all the local, exotic food you wouldn’t normally find anywhere else. Make sure you plan at least one night to cook a meal at 84 Main in your gourmet kitchen, and you can find all the ingredients you’ll need at the Kennebunk Farmers’ Market.
This local gathering of farmers and culinary vendors takes place at the Lafayette Center Parking Lot on Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. until mid-November. Here you will be able to fulfill all your home-grown produce needs with a variety of fresh fruits and veggies to choose from. Assortments of jams along with eggs, beef, chicken and lamb will be available as well.
If you find yourself in town June 27th through July 4th, stopping by to check out the festivities of Old Home Week is a must. The town of Kennebunk celebrates its past, present and future during this festival through craft fairs, musical performances and local history displays. For the children, there will be a petting zoo, carnival games and a parade. There will also be a church pie contest, barbecue, an antique auto show and much more for the family to enjoy.
Once the Old Home Week Festival has concluded, the entertainment will be moved to Gooch’s Beach on Beach Avenue. No Fourth of July would be complete without a fireworks show, so get there before dusk to take in the beauty of fireworks on the beach.
The long list of summer events in Kennebunk will conclude the first Saturday in August with the West Kennebunk Family Fun Day. Parents and children of all ages will have a blast at this family event filled with food, games and activities. Kids can enjoy a parade and petting zoo while adults can view yard and bake sales, fire department exhibits and take part in a pie baking contest. Seeing what all this family fun day has to offer is a great way to end your summer on a high note.
Regardless of when you take a trip to our 84 Main resort, during the summer there will be plenty to see and do. From concerts and theater productions in the park to downtown festivals and relaxing days on the beach, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in the beautiful East Coast town of Kennebunk, Maine.
